In October, South Philly Striders sent a contingent to the Tussey Mountainback Ultra and Relay near State College, Pennsylvania. Tim Hein, Hunter Proctor, John Encarnacion and Karen Lancaster were the four person squad in the Quad division, while Heather Hoechst took on the 50 mile ultra by herself. Despite cold temperatures and 5,400 feet of elevation gain, the weekend was a success. SPS was the top Quad “Men’s Open” (because we only had one female) with a time of 5 hours 48 minutes and 41 seconds. Meanwhile, Heather finished in 7 hours 37 minutes and 57 seconds, good for fourth place for women and tenth overall.
