On Saturday, December 17th at 8 a.m., South Philly Striders and the Fishtown Beer Runners will join Back On My Feet for a four mile bridge run along with homeless shelter residents currently in BOMF’s program. Back On My Feet was founded in Philadelphia in 2007 and engages residents of homeless shelters in running as a way to improve their confidence and self esteem, while adding structure to their lives (evidenced by the program’s mandatory 90% attendance rate).
We’ll meet at Front St. and South St. at 8 a.m., head through Old City and up to the midpoint of the mighty Ben Franklin Bridge, and back (brunch will follow for interested parties). Thanks and we hope to see you all there.
For those of you interested in an afternoon volunteering opportunity as well, Back On My Feet will perform cleanup and maintenance at the Cecil B. Moore Rec Center at 2551 N. 22nd St (near Lehigh Ave.) from 10am-2pm (lunch will be provided). A bus will be picking up BOMF staff after the 8 a.m. run, and you’re invited to hop on their bus (or, if you drive, there’s street parking near the rec center). Email Katie at katie.pfeifer@backonmyfeet.org with questions or to RSVP.
