It is the time of year again when the South Philly Striders and Fishtown Beer Runners run the streets of South Philly to enjoy the holiday lights.  This year, the 10th Annual run starts on Thursday, December 7, at 7 p.m. at Columbus Square (12th and Wharton).  The run ends at Victory Beer Hall at XFINITY Live! (11th and Pattison). Drink specials include $5 selected drafts, and the specials will be available throughout XFINITY.  Bring your IDs.

As is tradition, we are having a food drive to benefit Philabundance. Please bring canned and other non-perishable food to Columbus Square.  If you would like to donate online, click here.  Last year, we collected a couple hundred pounds of food and $1,034 in donations!

Feel free to wear bells, lights, and holiday costumes. All paces are welcome.

The route is 4.01 miles.  Click here for the cue sheet and here for the MapMyRun map.  Please enter Columbus Square on 12th Street and Wharton.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Please obey traffic rules and ONLY cross streets, particularly Broad Street or Oregon Avenue, on green lights. We do not want any accidents or having drivers annoyed at us for crossing on red lights.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: Please respect the neighborhood.  Observe areas where there are signs to stay off the grass.

FAQs

How do I get to the start at 13th and Wharton?
• SEPTA: The Broad Street Line stop at Ellsworth/Federal is two blocks from the start. Several SEPTA bus routes, including the 45 and the 4, let off on Wharton. Check out SEPTA’s website for a route that works best for you.
• Uber/Lyft
• Run or walk
• Bike or drive: You may consider biking or driving to XFINITY Live! ahead of the run and then take the Broad Street Line up to Federal and to the start.  Please note that there is a Sixers game that night, so parking near XFINITY may be costly.

We do not recommend biking to the start or parking at Columbus Square because the destination bar is a couple of miles away.

What are options to get home from the destination bar?
• SEPTA: The Broad Street Line stop at AT&T is a couple of blocks from XFINITY Live!
• Uber/Lyft
• Run or walk

Will there be drink specials?
Yes, there are $5 selected draft specials.

I’m injured, don’t run, work late, etc. can I still come to the bar?
Yes, all are welcome!

This past Saturday, South Philly Striders competed in the 3rd annual Mayor’s Cup.  It was a particularly good day for the SPS women, who placed 3rd in the women’s competition.  The squad was paced by Emma Rakestraw’s 5th place finish in the 10K and Karen Lancaster’s 7th place finish in the half marathon.  Overall, SPS finished 8th out of 35 teams, despite not starting a male in the 5K.  SPS remains the only neighborhood or free/open to all running club to place in the top three in the history of the Mayor’s Cup overall competition.
